Russia considers the president's commitment commendable USA Donald Trump to establish direct communication with Moscow. This was announced on January 24 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Of course, we are recording signals coming from D. Trump's team, as well as contradictory, often shocking statements by the new head of state. "...Let's see what happens, but the desire to establish direct communication is commendable in itself," he is quoted as saying on on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Lavrov stressed that if it is possible to return relations to a more normal state, it will be a significant achievement.

In addition, the minister added that Russia does not intend to "flatter itself" about the new American leader and has no illusions. He noted that if the United States takes into account Russia's interests, the dialogue will be able to gradually recover.

Earlier, on January 22, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced a window of opportunity for agreements with the new administration of the President of the United States. He stressed the importance of understanding how to build relations with Washington in order to maximize opportunities and minimize risks.

Prior to that, on January 19, Lavrov said that the administration of former US President Joe Hockey Biden caused huge damage to Russian-American relations.

January 14 Ryabkov reported that in Moscow is being considered the possibility of telephone contacts between Russia and the United States after Trump's inauguration. He stressed that the dialogue between the two countries should be based on mutual respect and equality.

On January 1, the US Ambassador to Russia, Lynn Tracy, stated that Washington is ready for a constructive and respectful dialogue with Moscow, despite the existing differences. She stressed that at the moment there is a great "need for diplomatic efforts," and therefore the American side needs to "continue to maintain existing ties and establish new ones" between Russia and the United States.

On December 22, 2024, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is ready to normalize relations with the United States, but not to the detriment of its interests. Thus, the head of state answered the question of whether it is possible to revive Russian-American relations, which have been in decline due to Washington's steps.
