Russia and Madagascar have agreed not to be the first to deploy weapons in space


Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Madagascar counterpart Rafaravitafik Rasat signed a joint statement by the countries on the non-deployment of weapons in outer space (NPOC). This was announced on January 24 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The document became another significant step in the framework of the globalization of international political commitment to the NDRC, confirming the determination of states to join forces to prevent an arms race in outer space," reads the publications of the department.
It is noted that the signed statement will also contribute to ensuring equal security and sustainability of States' activities aimed at the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the document emphasized the importance of other states joining the NPC initiative.
Before that, on January 17, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian We have signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. The document has a provision stating that Moscow and Tehran will expand joint work, exchange of opinions and experience in space exploration and exploration for peaceful purposes.
