On Friday, January 24, and over the coming weekend, the State Automobile Inspectorate will conduct mass and "continuous" checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to the search for drunk drivers. Regional departments of the State Automobile Inspectorate announced about the raids.

Various preventive measures will be held in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, as well as in Primorsky Krai, Volgograd region, Rostov region, Tver region, Republic of Buryatia, Kirov region and other regions of the country.

It is unacceptable to drive a vehicle while intoxicated, reminded the Russian State Automobile Inspectorate, warning drivers against drunk driving. On weekends, traffic police pay special attention to the prevention and suppression of the facts of driving while intoxicated, including the use of the practice of mass checks, emphasized in the department.

"We convincingly urge citizens who noticed that the car is driven by a driver in an inadequate state, to report it to the police. This call can save someone's life. Police officers will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the propaganda department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

He emphasized that drunk driving is in itself dangerous and unacceptable. And taking into account the additional risks of winter roads (icing, limited visibility, etc.) the driver and his passengers in a state of intoxication have not even the slightest chance to complete the trip safely. In addition, such behavior endangers the lives of other road users, said Anton Belan.

The traffic police reminded that driving a car in a state of intoxication, as well as the refusal of medical examination, entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a large fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver may face criminal liability for these acts.

On the eve of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia proposed to change the procedure for drawing up protocols in case of detection of drunk drivers by traffic inspectors. The draft federal law is undergoing a procedure of public discussion. Now it is necessary to draw up three to five procedural documents when a driver with signs of intoxication is detected. Drawing up these protocols in a number of cases seems redundant, the Interior Ministry said.
