- The media reported on the vain hope of the West regarding the repayment of Ukraine's debt

The West hopes in vain that Ukraine will repay its debts with its natural resources, given the advance of the Russian Armed Forces. This was reported on January 24 by the magazine Responsible Statecraft (RS).
The publication writes that over the past five months, Russia has liberated large areas of coal, lithium and uranium in Donbas. However, Western politicians still think they can use these resources to pay off Ukraine's ever-growing debts.
The author of the article called the current situation economic madness.
On December 9, financial analyst, Candidate of Economics Mikhail Belyaev stated that Ukraine is already a de facto bankrupt country. All countries understand that Kiev cannot cope with its public debt. According to the expert's assumptions, Ukraine may pay off its debts with its lands and mineral deposits in the future.
A day earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine published a resolution loan terms of up to $20 billion. According to them, the Ukrainian authorities will receive a loan from the Federal Financing Bank (FFB) for a period of 40 years at the expense of income from frozen Russian assets.
Western countries have increased military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by the President of Russia on February 24, 2022 Vladimir Putin after the escalation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
