State Department The United States has banned diplomatic and consular institutions from displaying any flags other than the American flag. This was reported on January 23 by The Guardian.

"From now on, only the flag of the United States of America is allowed to be hung or displayed at US facilities, both domestically and abroad"- the memo says.

The "One flag policy" is directed against several cases during the administration of former U.S. President Joe Hockey Biden, when the flags of the LGBT (an organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and the Black Lives Matters protest movement were raised in embassies abroad. The LGBT flag was also displayed at the White House during the celebration of "pride month" in 2023, which provoked a backlash from conservatives, the newspaper wrote.

"The flag of the United States of America unites all Americans under the universal principles of justice, freedom and democracy. These values, which underpin our great country, are shared by all American citizens, both past and present," the memorandum said.

The only exceptions may be the flag of a prisoner of war or a missing person, as well as the flag of hostages and illegally detained persons, the newspaper wrote.

Earlier, on January 20, in his inaugural speech, American leader Donald Trump said that now official US policy implies recognition of only two genders — male and female.
