Don-Donbass waterway suspended due to AFU shelling
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) strikes on critical infrastructure in the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics have disrupted power supply and led to the suspension of the Don-Donbass water pipeline. This was reported on Friday, January 24, in the press service of the Ministry of Construction of the DNR.
"For the second day in a row the AFU strikes on the energy infrastructure of Donbass, because of which the work of equipment that provides water intake from the Don - Donbass water pipeline was disrupted", - stated in the message in the Telegram-channel.
It is specified that the workers managed to prevent a complete stop of the water pipeline, but for the period of elimination of the consequences of the attack, the water supply may be unstable and today it is reduced by 20%.
Emergency crews of the region are working to restore the supply. In particular, accidents at the Khanzhonkovskoye reservoir have been eliminated, and yesterday they managed to eliminate 291 accidents on water supply and sewage networks.
Against the background of the situation, the authorities have increased the supply of water to local residents. The region's enterprises have also been ordered to go into strict water saving mode in order to direct the saved volumes to residential houses in Donetsk and Makeyevka.
The water pipeline connecting the Rostov region and Donbass began taking water from the Don on March 31, 2023. The construction runs from Rostov region to the Seversky Donets - Donbass canal. The capacity of the conduit is up to 300 thousand cubic meters of water daily.
Ukrainian militants have been shelling Russian territories on a daily basis amid a special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russia announced on February 24, 2022.
