Glenn Diesen, a professor at Southeastern Norway University and political scientist, said Friday, Jan. 24, that with the denuclearization deal, U.S. President Donald Trump wants to quarrel Russia and China.

"It could also be an attempt by the US to sow discord between Russia and China as the US wants Russia to put pressure on China. Russia is unlikely to put any pressure on China," he wrote on his X (former Twitter) page.

The professor added that Beijing has fewer nuclear weapons than Washington and Moscow. He also wondered why Trump did not include Britain and France, which also possess nuclear weapons, in the nuclear weapons agreement, Gazeta.Ru noted.

The day before, Trump said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the US wants to reduce nuclear weapons together with Russia and China. The head of the White House emphasized that in the past he had discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the reduction of nuclear arsenals of the two countries.

The American leader noted that Washington is ready to consider nuclear disarmament only if Moscow and Beijing also decide to eliminate it. He added that the US side sees positive prospects for reaching such an agreement.
