Over the past 24 hours, 219 traffic accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 18 people were killed and 275 injured. 15 of the dead were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Friday, January 24, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 81 accidents involving pedestrians, three people died, another 82 were injured of varying severity. Among the victims are 10 child pedestrians, seven of whom were injured at crosswalks. Of the total number of accidents with pedestrians, 45 occurred at crosswalks and 36 outside their zone of action.
Thus, in one of the settlements of the Tambov region, the driver of a school bus, moving without passengers, hit a 76-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the roadway outside a crosswalk. The unregulated crosswalk was only 6 meters away from the accident site. The pedestrian died. On Thursday, 24 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which three people died, including one child passenger. Another 36 road users required medical attention. The cause of 14 accidents involving buses were violations of traffic rules committed by their drivers.
In the Volgograd region on a regional highway, the driver of a school bus carrying 20 students, when leaving a secondary road, did not give advantage in traffic and collided with a crossover, then overturned on the roadway. As a result of the accident, an eight-year-old passenger of the bus was killed, 10 more schoolchildren aged 8-15 and a passenger of the passenger car were injured. All the injured were sent for outpatient treatment.
Twenty-one road accidents involving minors were registered, in which 32 young road users were injured, including 21 child passengers.
In the Republic of Kalmykia on the federal highway R-216 (Astrakhan - Elista - Stavropol), the driver of a passenger car collided with a school bus carrying 14 students and one accompanying adult passenger. After the impact, the passenger car went off the road and overturned. Four passengers of the passenger car were injured in the accident, including three children: a boy born in 2023, who at the time of the collision was in the back seat in a child restraint device and was wearing a seat belt, a girl born in 2011, who was in the front passenger seat and was wearing a seat belt, and her sister born in 2017, who was not wearing a seat belt. After medical attention, the victims were sent for outpatient treatment. The perpetrator of the collision, as well as the driver of the school bus and its young passengers along with the attendant were not injured.
On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Police reminded drivers that the life and health of their young passengers depend entirely on skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior on the road behind the wheel.
"Do not make dangerous maneuvers, refuse risky manner of driving, do not exceed the permitted speed limit, especially in conditions of limited visibility and winter weather, observe the distance and lateral interval between vehicles: leave yourself a reserve of time to have time to react adequately to the possible at any moment change in the traffic situation. We also draw the attention of drivers to strict compliance with the rules of transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, not allowing even the preconditions for a possible tragedy on your part", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of road safety propaganda and prevention of child traffic injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.
The day before, the Russian Interior Ministry proposed to change the procedure for drawing up protocols when traffic inspectors detect drunk drivers. The draft federal law is undergoing a procedure of public discussion. Now it is necessary to draw up from three to five procedural documents when detecting a driver with signs of intoxication. Drawing up these protocols in a number of cases seems redundant, the Interior Ministry said.
