Court sentences Angarsk cafe shooter to 19 years in prison

The resident of Angarsk, who organized a shootout in a cafe in June 2023 and killed one of the participants in the conflict, was sentenced by the court to 19 years in a strict regime colony. This was reported by the Irkutsk Regional Prosecutor's Office on January 24.

A 35-year-old man was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "a" and paragraph "e" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of two persons, committed in a generally dangerous way"), paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder"), Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal storage, transportation and carrying of firearms and ammunition").

The investigation found that the defendant entered the cafe with a gun and during a verbal altercation with one of the visitors familiar to him shot him several times. When the shooter tried to flee from the scene, he was caught up by a friend of the victim and stabbed in the street. Then he again pulled out a gun, fired a shot at the man who caught up with him and fled in a car.

"From the gunshot wound received near the cafe, the 34-year-old victim died in hospital several hours later. The death of the 42-year-old man, who received seven gunshot wounds in the cafe, did not occur, as he was given timely medical assistance," the prosecutor's office said on its website.

The defendant himself reached the hospital the same day, he was later taken into custody by the court. His guilt in the crimes he admitted partially.

"Taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced the perpetrator to 19 years of imprisonment with serving his sentence in a penal colony of strict regime with restriction of freedom for a period of one year eight months with a fine of 50 thousand rubles. Also the court satisfied the claims of the victims to recover from the convict more than 11.5 million rubles," - noted the agency.

In June 2023 it was reported that the Angarsk city court arrested sports functionary Vasily Murachev, a suspect in the shooting in an Angarsk cafe, which killed one person and injured another. According to the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk region, the man had already been convicted of extortion and robbery in 2022.

Before that, on June 20, the source of "Izvestiya" reported that in a shootout in the Angarsk café Coffee Like, the president of the Angarsk Boxing Federation, Alexander Rakislov, was wounded. He was in the establishment with his buddy Hovhanez Tumanyan. Soon Murachev came to the cafe and there was a conflict with shooting.
