- Shoigu says Western attempts to change the course of special operations in Ukraine have failed
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu said on Friday, January 24, that the West failed to change the course of the special operation, so it will bet on destabilizing the Union State.
"Given that the West, despite huge financial expenditures and comprehensive support for the Kiev regime, has failed to change the course of the special military operation in Ukraine, it is quite possible to predict that the main bet will again be made on destabilizing the situation in the Union State from within. We are taking pre-emptive measures both individually and collectively," he told TASS.
He said that measures to counter interference in the internal affairs of Russia and Belarus are stipulated in the Concept of Security of the Union State, and emphasized that such attempts by unfriendly countries occur regularly and are diverse.
Shoigu added that foreign intelligence services carry out subversive activities and try to destabilize the situation in the country, especially before elections.
Earlier, on December 6, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko signed a treaty on security guarantees between the two countries. The ceremony was held in Minsk after the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
According to the Russian leader, the document defines mutual allied obligations to ensure defense, protection of sovereignty, independence and constitutional order of the Russian Federation and Belarus, as well as inviolability of the territory of the external border of the Union State.
