The water crisis is worsening in the Gaza Strip, with about 70% of the enclave's water infrastructure destroyed as a result of ongoing military operations, Al Jazeera TV reported on January 24, citing officials.

According to the United Nations (UN), more than 3,250 trucks with humanitarian aid have crossed Gaza since the ceasefire went into effect on Sunday, January 19.

For its part, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) adds that most of the homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed.

"As aid trucks continue to arrive in Gaza, UNRWA warns that Palestinians returning to their homes in the war-torn enclave are finding most of them destroyed and uninhabitable," Al Jazeera points out.

Earlier in the day, Abdel Fattah Al-Dawla, an official spokesman for the largest faction within the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Fatah, told Izvestia that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has developed a plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip. PNA representatives are currently involved in the work of clearing the rubble and providing financial, medical and other support to our population.

Prior to this, on January 23, the Palestinian Hamas movement noted that the next phase of peace talks on the Gaza Strip will begin in two weeks. They will include the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from the enclave, a permanent ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

Earlier, on January 19, a ceasefire began to take effect in the Gaza Strip. At that time, the Palestinian Hamas movement handed over three Israeli hostages - Romy Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher - to representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The next day, Israel released the first 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israeli territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. Israel began retaliatory strikes the same day.

The Palestinians intend to return the borders between the two countries that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, with possible land swaps. Palestine wants to establish its state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel refuses these conditions.
