- Ukrainian authorities refused in advance to recognize the results of the elections in Belarus
Ukraine has refused in advance to recognize the results of the presidential election in Belarus. This was stated by a representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Heorhiy Tikhiy, at a briefing on 23 January, the broadcast of which was published on the agency's Facebook page (owned by the recognized extremist company Meta, its activities are banned in the Russian Federation).
Tikhiy said that Kiev does not have any grounds to recognize the elections in the republic, and their results are allegedly known in advance.
The diplomat also said that Ukraine did not have any prerequisites for restoring contacts with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
According to the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Kiev agrees with the position of the European Union (EU), the USA, Canada and other countries, which believe that Belarus allegedly lacks conditions for holding transparent elections.
The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for January 26, 2025. Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeenko called the upcoming elections an important and significant socio-political event.
The candidates for the presidential election are the current leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich, MP Anna Kanopatskaya, leader of the Belarusian Communists Sergei Syrankov and leader of the Party of Labor and Justice Alexander Khizhnyak.
January 21, the EU website published a statement that the EP deputies planned to urge the EU not to recognize the results of the presidential election in Belarus. According to the document, the EU countries and the international community should reject the campaign and elections in Belarus as fictitious, as they allegedly "do not meet the minimum international standards of democratic elections."
Afterwards, on January 22, the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatol Glaz made a statement saying that the EP draft resolution on the elections in the republic was completely biased and was a gross interference in the electoral processes of a sovereign state.
