TheUnited States wants to reduce nuclear weapons together with Russia and China. American President Donald Trump said this on January 23 at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

"Too much money is being spent on nuclear capabilities. We need to de-escalate nuclear relations," he said.

The White House chief emphasized that in the past he had discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin reducing the two countries' nuclear arsenals.

"I think we could get the rest of the world to follow us, and China would also join. China would like that too," Trump stated.

He noted that the US is ready to consider nuclear disarmament only if Russia and China also decide to eliminate it. He added that the US side sees positive prospects for reaching such an agreement.

Earlier, on October 14, 2024, former US leader Joe Biden said that Washington was ready to hold talks with Moscow, Beijing and Pyongyang on reducing the nuclear arsenal in order to reduce the risks of a theoretical threat. He drew attention to the fact that the presence of a nuclear threat undermines the norms and agreements on which the whole world has been collectively working for a long time.

Before that, on October 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the level of nuclear danger in the world has seriously increased due to the actions of the West, and Moscow urges the United States to realize the possible consequences. She specified that Russia had already warned Washington about it.

Putin said on September 25 that the foundations of the state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence should be adapted to modern realities. Thus, aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear state is proposed to be considered as a joint attack. The conditions for Russia's transition to the use of nuclear weapons are also clearly fixed, the Russian leader noted.
