AFU battalion fighters to stand trial over terrorist attacks in Kursk region
The Investigative Committee has sent a criminal case against soldiers of the 408th separate infantry battalion "Black Sea Sich" in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Melnyk and Oleksiy Pokatilov over the terrorist attacks in Kursk Region to the court for consideration. This was reported in the press service of the department on January 23.
"The Investigative Committee of Russia has completed the investigation of the criminal case against servicemen of the 408th separate infantry battalion "Black Sea Sich" of the AFU Alexander Melnik and Alexei Pokatilov. Depending on the role of each of them, they are accused of committing terrorist acts in Kursk region (paragraphs "a", "v" part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)", - noted in the Telegram-channel.
According to the investigation, in September 2024, the accused, carrying AKM rifles and explosive devices, crossed the border of the Russian Federation and occupied private houses in Glushkovsky district of Kursk region. In addition, they prohibited the movement of civilians and fired on Russian servicemen and civilians to kill them.
The military of the Russian Armed Forces detained the Ukrainian militants on October 1, 2024. After that, an investigation was launched against them, adds "Gazeta.Ru".
Before that, on January 19, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on the fact of killing civilians by AFU fighters in the Kursk village of Russkoye Porechnoye, Sujansky district. The criminal case was initiated under paragraph "b" part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act resulting in intentional infliction of death to a person").
The AFU attacked the positions of the Russian Federation in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
