Irish journalist Chay Bose pointed out to US President Donald Trump an error in his words about the victory in World War II. He wrote the social network X (former Twitter) on January 23.

"President Donald Trump stated, 'Russia helped us defeat the Nazis.' In fact, it's quite the opposite," - stated in the message.

According to him, the USSR destroyed 80% of Germany's military power, while the US provided the Soviet Union with only 10% of the necessary equipment as part of lend-lease, which was soon returned.

Bose added that the USSR's contribution to the defeat of the Nazis consisted not only in the number of soldiers and lives, but also in the indomitable spirit of the people.

Earlier, on January 22, Trump said that Russia helped the United States win World War II. Commenting on his words, on January 23, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump was not correct in his statements, as everyone knows that the hostilities at that time unfolded on a completely different continent.

He emphasized that the main burden in the fight against fascism and the biggest price for the victory in the fight against it "was paid by our country, the Soviet Union"

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive on Berlin. As a result of the fighting at 0:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
