US President Donald Trump has no levers of pressure on Russia. This was stated by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov on Thursday, January 23.

Earlier, the US parliamentary newspaper The Hill quoted experts as saying that Trump has no serious levers of pressure on both Russia and Ukraine to resolve the conflict, RT reported.

"As for Russia, what leverage can Trump have? They are talking about sanctions on all Russian exports - we supply almost nothing there anyway. It's useless to blackmail us with that. Secondly, I think that Mr. Trump has not fully understood what is going on in the relations between Russia and Ukraine. He does not know the history of our countries well," Dzhabarov explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

The senator emphasized that it is useless to talk from a position of strength with Russia.

"If Trump doubts this, let him ask his predecessors in the White House and leaders of European countries. <...> We are ready for negotiations, but they should be constructive," the politician said.

Earlier, on January 22, Trump threatened to raise taxes and impose new sanctions on Russian exports to the United States if the conflict in Ukraine is not resolved soon, reports NSN. The American president called the "deal" itself a favor he was doing for the Russian Federation, reports 360.ru.

In response to such statements of the American leader, the Deputy of the State Duma from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet called on the US President not to talk to Russia in the language of force. He noted that Trump could influence the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, but so far, except for loud statements, there have been no substantive proposals from him.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Trump instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
