Even planned home births are associated with a high risk of infant and maternal mortality. Obstetrician-gynecologist Olga Ulankina, candidate of medical sciences, an expert of the Hemotest laboratory, told about it on January 23.

"At home, it is very difficult to assess how much blood a woman loses and whether it is normal. <...> If measures are not taken, death can occur in just a few hours," the expert noted in a conversation with RT.

For the child, too, there are a number of serious risks, the doctor emphasized. For example, asphyxia due to umbilical cord entanglement or amniotic fluid entering the respiratory tract, death from premature detachment of the placenta or rupture of its vessel.

Ulankina reminded that unlike home conditions in the hospital there are developed protocols and all the necessary equipment.

"In the conditions of home birth can simply not have time to provide the necessary assistance," she said.

It is specified that it is not worth giving birth at home to women who had previous pregnancies with complications, had a miscarriage or gave birth prematurely.

Earlier, on December 28 last year, obstetrician-gynecologist-surgeon of JSC "Medicine" (clinic of Academician Roitberg) Sabina Khanmirzoeva told about preparation for planned pregnancy.

According to her, pregnancy should be approached with a change in the habitual lifestyle, which includes proper nutrition, regular physical exercise, avoidance of bad habits and stress management.
