The Louvre in Paris is in need of major repairs due to the severe deterioration of the building, which jeopardizes some of the key exhibits of the museum. This was reported by Le Parisien newspaper on January 22 with reference to a note from Louvre director Laurence de Carre to French Culture Minister Rachida Dati.

According to her letter, the large influx of visitors has caused "physical damage" to the famous French museum. Some of the Louvre's halls are in a deplorable state - they have leaking roofs and fluctuating temperatures.

In addition, in summer the museum turns into a "hothouse" - it is extremely unpleasant to be in it because of the stuffiness. Moreover, de Carre drew attention to the fact that the Louvre does not have enough toilets and places for rest. The choice of food in the buffet does not meet international standards.

The museum director called for an immediate overhaul of the museum.

Earlier, on January 28, 2024, environmental activists doused the apartment of the "Mona Lisa" with soup. The vandals justified their actions by their desire to promote "the right to healthy and sustainable food." The museum activated a crisis unit: the room where the painting is located was immediately evacuated.
