The most frightening diseases for Russians have been named

The majority of Russians surveyed (97%) feel fear about various diseases: 40% feel moderate anxiety, and 57% are particularly worried about their health and are concerned about any ailments. The greatest fear among respondents is caused by cancer (77%). This is stated in the research results of IC "Rosgosstrakh" and medical company "INVITRO", which were presented to "Izvestia" on January 24.

At the same time, 45% are afraid of viral infections, 40% - of diseases associated with heart disorders. Dementia (34%), autoimmune diseases (31%) and mental disorders (26%) are also on the list of diseases that cause anxiety among Russian residents.

Experts found out that when symptoms are detected, 24% of Russians start looking for information on the Internet, 22% immediately go to a doctor, and 38% go to a specialist only when their condition worsens. 7% prefer to treat themselves and the same number of respondents hope that the ailment will go away on its own.

According to 86% of the survey participants, stress is the most important factor influencing the deterioration of health and the emergence of various diseases. To reduce its level in everyday life, 16% practice meditation and relaxation methods. Among other factors adversely affecting health, Russians named lack of adequate sleep (50%), improper nutrition (46%) and sedentary lifestyle (45%).

To maintain health and prevent diseases, 39% of respondents take vitamin complexes and supplements to strengthen immunity, 32% lead an active lifestyle and do sports, and 25% follow a proper diet. In addition, 23% try to keep to their sleep schedule.

In addition, 46% of Russians undergo medical examinations at least once a year, 13% - once every two or three years, 4% - less than once every three years. Another 23% are examined only if they feel worse or if new symptoms appear, 12% only when absolutely necessary, and 2% do not undergo examinations at all.

At the same time, 53% of respondents explained irregular medical examinations by lack of finances. One third of respondents are afraid of getting unfavorable results, 26% complained about lack of time, 17% are dissatisfied with the quality of medical services. Every tenth told about the lack of desire to be examined, and 3% do not consider it necessary.

27% of Russians spend from 10 thousand to 25 thousand rubles a year on health care, the same number of respondents - more than 25 thousand rubles, 22% - from 5 thousand to 10 thousand rubles, 18% - up to 5 thousand rubles.

Earlier, on December 6, 2024, it was reported that Russians increased spending on health in 2024. The average check in pharmacies in cities with millions of people increased by 13.5% compared to 2023 and amounted to 434.55 rubles, follows from the data of analysts "SberSpasibo". The highest figure was recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg: residents of these cities spend 556 rubles and 510 rubles respectively.
