In World War II, the United States helped the USSR to defeat fascism, but their goal was business. This statement was made by the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on January 23.

On the eve of the American President Donald Trump said that "Russia helped" the United States to win the Second World War. He also assured that he loves the Russian people and does not pursue the goal of harming Russia.

"America did help. It made a significant contribution. America helped, but there is one nuance. America is always making money. For America, it is always business," he said at the briefing.

The presidential spokesman emphasized that the Soviet Union paid the main burden in the fight against fascism, as well as "the biggest price for the victory" over it.

According to Peskov, the United States is still helping Ukraine to make money by selling its expensive energy resources to Europe. In addition, the state is hosting orders for its military industry, creating new taxes and jobs for its economy and developing new technologies.

Peskov specified that the Russian Federation "will always remember and will never forget" the American assistance during World War II. Among other things, he recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, upon taking office, finalized U.S. lend-lease payments to the United States for assistance provided during World War II.

The Kremlin official expressed hope that American citizens and President Donald Trump "will share with us the joy of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory."

As the head of the "Safe Internet League" Ekaterina Mizulina noted, Trump's words about the USSR's help to America in winning World War II are blasphemy and mockery. And insult the memory of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. Mizulina noted that she does not consider her grandfather, who participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, as an assistant to the United States.

Earlier, on December 25, 2024, President RPutin said that the victory over Nazism in 1945 should be promoted as a common value for all mankind. He noted that all CIS countries remember and honor the feat of all peoples of the USSR.

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive against Berlin. As a result of the fighting at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
