Early pregnancy screening centers opened in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, six inter-district antenatal fetal protection rooms have started working. They were opened on the basis of maternity hospitals.

Specialists of these centers will be able to detect possible fetal development disorders at early stages. Such organizations are designed to improve the quality of medical care for expectant mothers.

TV channel "78" with reference to the press service of the Smolny specifies that the new offices are working in the city perinatal center № 1, maternity hospital № 6 named after Professor Snegirev, in maternity hospitals № 9, 10, 16 and 17.

Previously, screenings of congenital malformations and chromosomal disorders were conducted on the basis of women's consultations, but the possibilities of medical care were limited. Now patients have access to such examination on the basis of maternity hospitals equipped with modern diagnostic equipment.

The main tasks of antenatal fetal protection rooms are diagnostics and prevention of complications at the beginning of pregnancy. These are such pathologies as fetal growth retardation and pre-eclampsia. Patients will be able to make an ultrasound of expert class for the terms of 11-14 weeks and take tests for biochemical markers.

The channel notes that St. Petersburg is a leader in the country in the treatment of malformations in newborns and intrauterine surgeries. In the city, the construction of the Center for surgery of congenital malformations and reconstructive treatment is at the final stage.

Earlier, on December 7, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said during the 37th meeting of the CIS Health Cooperation Council that in recent years the city has become the center of Russia's pharmaceutical industry and is now ready to share its achievements and implement new projects together with partners in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
