US President Donald Trump left it up to the US Congress to investigate former head of state Joe Biden. He made the corresponding statement on January 22 in an interview with the Fox News TV channel.

"I think we'll let Congress make the decision," he said.

At the same time, Trump joked that the former US President should have pardoned himself. So he recalled the pardon by Biden of members of his family and political allies, clarifies "Gazeta.Ru".

Speaking about his trials, the American leader admitted that he went through "four years of hell, spending millions of dollars on legal services."

"It's really hard to say that they (Biden and his family. - Ed.) should not go through all this," he added.

Earlier, on January 20, Biden preemptively pardoned a number of his family members, calling the investigations into them "baseless and politically motivated." According to the former White House chief of staff, his family had been attacked and threatened, which were aimed at causing him pain. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the situation with the pre-emptive pardon a self-defamatory act.

Prior to that, on January 17, the former US president commuted the sentences of nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent crimes. He granted clemency to those citizens who received long sentences, as well as those whose sentences were based on outdated norms related to crimes involving illegal substances.
