Changan responds to allegations of unsafe car seat backs

Changan did not register any cases of deformation of front seat backs when the rear part of the car was damaged. This was stated to "Izvestia" on January 23 by Alexey Andrievsky, Director of After-Sales Service Department of Changan Motors Rus.
Earlier in the day, the National Automobile Union (NAU) said it had asked Rosstandart to conduct an inspection following the publication of a video of the Changan CS55 Plus/Uni-S. The video shows a deformed backrest of the driver's seat after an accident in which the rear of the car was damaged. The commentary on the video specified that the improper design leads to a compression fracture of the spine during the accident.
The press service of Changan Motors Rus said in response to Izvestia's request that the company was "surprised by such news and, in particular, by the 'loud' statements contained in the text narrative to the video." The company noted that the owner of this car did not contact the official representative office or official dealers. The video lacks a date, time and any identifying registration information such as a license plate number or VIN number to identify the specific vehicle and the specific incident. Also, the history of the accident and any details are not provided.
At the end of last year, 38,400 units of the Changan CS55 Plus/Uni-S were sold in Russia, but there were no officially reported cases of front seat backs deforming with similar damage to the rear of the vehicle, Changan Motors Rus said.
"The safety of the vehicle and seats has been confirmed by official test results, in particular by the independent European test center TÜV Rheinland. We are conducting additional checks through all our channels, but the lack of registration data of a particular car makes it difficult for us to interact with state authorities on this incident," said Alexey Andrievsky, director of the after-sales service department of Changan Motors Rus.
On January 20, it was reported that Changan renamed the CS55 Plus crossover in the Russian market. The model has joined the lineup of Uni cars and was named Uni-S. As explained by the Executive Director of Changan Motors Rus Alexander Kulagin, the line of cars Uni is planned to be separated into a separate brand, so the company did not wait for a change of generation of the model.
