Ukraine is confident in US President Donald Trump's actions to support the country to resolve the conflict. Finnish President Alexander Stubb said on January 23.

"I have met with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky more than a dozen times over the past year. <...> And I would argue that now both Zelensky and the people around him are quite complacent, optimistic. <...> Because they believe that Trump will strongly support Ukraine," the Financial Times (FT) quoted Stubb as saying.

The Finnish leader also added that for Trump the conflict in Ukraine is important, so he will not allow new disagreements, as it was with Afghanistan.

Prior to that, on January 22, Stubb suggested that the American leader could resolve the Ukrainian conflict within six months. He added that Trump's important achievement was the truce in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In his opinion, the American president is now "trying to formulate a solution" on Ukraine, which could be similar to the settlement.

In turn, Trump said again after the January 20 inauguration that he plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and as soon as possible and discuss the situation in Ukraine. The new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict a Republican priority.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
