Ministry of Natural Resources announced plans to start lithium mining in Russia


Arctic Lithium" company plans to produce 12 thousand tons of lithium oxide by 2027 within the framework of pilot development of Polmostundrovskoye deposit in the Murmansk region. This was reported in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation on January 23.
It noted that the mining and processing plant is planned to be put into operation no later than 2030.
"During the period of pilot development it is planned to extract 1 million tons of ore mass containing about 12 thousand tons of Li2O (lithium oxide. - Ed.)," - said in the Ministry of Natural Resources to the agency "RIA Novosti".
At the moment, lithium is not mined in Russia. According to the agency, in 2023, two more deposits were licensed - Tastygskoye in Tyva and Kolmozerskoye in the Murmansk region.
Earlier, on December 5 last year, it was reported that in January-October 2024, the federal budget received 10.4 trillion rubles from the mineral extraction tax (MET).
