Many Russian drivers in the winter period make mistakes that can lead to serious damage to the car. Alexei Balashov, director of service and spare parts at Avilon Mercedes-Benz, told about it, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta " reports on January 23.

Thus, some motorists consider warming up the engine before a trip a waste of time. However, with thickened oil in a cold engine, the rubbing elements of the motor experience increased wear, explained the auto expert. Additional load due to a cold start is also experienced by the battery, so you should regularly check the voltage and recharge the battery.

A number of motorists on slippery roads begin to brake sharply, which can lead to skidding and loss of control over the car, said the expert. In winter one should brake smoothly and in advance to avoid blocking the wheels, as well as use engine braking, switching to a lower gear.

In addition, Balashov reminded that it is extremely dangerous to drive on summer tires even in winter, hoping to save money. It is also necessary to treat windows and mirrors with special means against icing, he advised.

Earlier, January 16, auto expert Alexander Sosnovsky said that the same mileage of the car in the urban environment or on the highway has a different impact on the life of the engine oil. The same time of work of the power unit in motor-hours at low loads at about idle speeds and work at maximum load at high speeds also affects it differently.
