Media pointed to Trump's lack of leverage over Russia and Ukraine

US President Donald Trump, despite his loud statements, has no leverage over Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by The Hill newspaper on January 22.
The material notes that Trump's statements after taking office to Russian leader Vladimir Putin are intended to demonstrate that his policy of "peace through strength" can end the Ukrainian conflict.
"The reality is that Trump and the US as a whole do not have a huge influence on either side in this conflict," the article said.
Earlier, on January 22, Trump threatened to raise taxes and impose new sanctions on Russian exports to the United States if the conflict in Ukraine is not resolved soon. The American president called the "deal" itself a favor he was doing for the Russian Federation.
In response to such statements of the American leader, the Deputy of the State Duma from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet called on the US President not to talk to Russia in the language of force. He noted that Trump can influence the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, but so far, except for loud statements, there have been no substantive proposals from him.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that Trump instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
