The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing an executive order that would suspend funding for virus research that seeks to create more dangerous or contagious pathogens. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal(WSJ) on Wednesday, January 22.

The executive order would deny U.S. funding to scientists in studies that alter viruses and explore their new capabilities, including their ability to defy drug treatments.

According to the newspaper, some Republicans believe that similar research in China's Wuhan led to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is noted that the content of the decree is still being discussed, it may not apply to the avian influenza virus (H5N1) and a number of other infections.

At the same time, according to virologists, such research is necessary to prepare humanity for future pandemics.

On January 20, US President Donald Trump, after his inauguration, signed several dozen documents in the White House for 47 minutes. The broadcast was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the US administration.

Earlier in the day, Trump took the oath of office in the Capitol rotunda, becoming the 47th president of the United States. Along with him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance was sworn in. This is Trump's second presidential term, the first time he was the American leader in 2017-2021. In the inaugural speech, the new US president announced the beginning of the "golden age of America".

Immediately after taking office, Trump signed more than 200 new decrees. Among them, the introduction of a state of emergency on the border with Mexico and the inclusion of drug cartels in the list of terrorist organizations.
