Scientists named the main astronomical events of the year

The year will be rich in unique astronomical events. It began with the passage of comet ATLAS on January 14, which was visible to the naked eye, and at the end of the year is expected an incredible "star shower" - the Geminid stream with an intensity of 150 meteors per hour. About this "Izvestia" told the Chairman of the Irkutsk Regional Astronomical Society Pavel Nikiforov.
"The sky at the end of January and in February will be exceptional. In these winter evenings, for about a month, we will simultaneously be able to observe all the large planets of the solar system, with the exception of Mercury. And almost all of them will be present in their brightest incarnation," the scientist said.
Also, he said, among the notable events can be emphasized the convergence of Venus and Jupiter. It can be observed on August 12. The angular distance in the sky will be only half a degree. This event will remind of the Star of Bethlehem - when, as scientists believe, the disks of the planets coincided into one unusually bright luminous point.
Of other interesting events - the visual "disappearance" on March 23 rings of Saturn, the convergence of Earth with Mars and Jupiter, as well as paired solar and lunar eclipses in March and September 2025.
