17.67% of voters cast their ballots early in the presidential election in Belarus

The turnout of Belarusian voters amounted to 17.67% during two days of early voting for the presidential election. This was reported in the Central Election Commission of Belarus on January 22.

"Over two days, 17.67% of the total number of citizens included in the voting lists took part in early voting in the presidential election of the Republic of Belarus," wrote the press service of the agency in Telegram.

The photo attached to the publication shows that the highest turnout was recorded in Brest (19.35%) and Vitsebsk (18.35%) voblasts.

As for other regions of the country, 17.67% of voters came to the polls in Homel voblast, 15.13% in Hrodna voblast, 17.72% in Minsk voblast, 17.97% in Mahiliou voblast and 17.20% in Minsk.

On the first day of early voting, the turnout of citizens of Belarus amounted to 7.81%.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus said that the draft resolution of the European Parliament (EP) on the elections in the republic is completely biased and is a gross interference in the electoral processes of a sovereign state.

Earlier, January 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin wished success at the presidential elections to his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko. Before that, January 7, Lukashenko said that he doesn't hold on to power and considers it his advantage. He also emphasized that he would do everything to quietly hand it over to the new generation.

Presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for January 26, 2025. Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeenko called the upcoming elections an important and significant social and political event.

The candidates for the presidential election are the current leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich, MP Anna Kanopatskaya, leader of the Belarusian Communists Sergei Syrankov and leader of the Party of Labor and Justice Alexander Khizhnyak.
