In the Murmansk region at the end of 2024, an increase in the number of traffic accidents within populated areas has been recorded. This was reported by Alexei Tarunin, Head of the Department of State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Murmansk region, on Wednesday, January 22.
In total in 2024 in the region there were 637 traffic accidents, of which in cities and towns - 444. A year earlier this figure reached 374, thus the number of accidents increased by 18.7%, writes IA "Beeport".
"On the federal highway there is a decrease in the number of accidents, as well as injured and killed. However, on the territory of settlements we had a growth of the injured and dead by almost 20%," - the news agency quotes Tarunin's words.
On federal highways 96 accidents were recorded (in 2023 - 145), on regional and intermunicipal roads - 97 accidents (in 2023 - 112).
A total of 42 people died in road accidents in the Murmansk Oblast over 12 months, and another 864 were injured. This is lower than the previous year's figures by 34.4% and 5% respectively.
In the evening of January 20, there was an accident involving three cars on the road Nickel - Pryrechny - Lotta in the Murmansk region. Eight people were injured.
