A soldier of the Russian Armed Forces has told how he spent several days getting to his fellow soldiers through swamps with frostbitten feet while escaping from the enemy encirclement. A video of his story is published on January 22 by Izvestia.

The military man said that he went on a special military operation (SVO) as a volunteer. He shared that he barely survived the first combat mission and got frostbite on his limbs. The Russian serviceman had to crawl for several days to reach the positions of the Russian Armed Forces.

"I lay on my stomach, closed myself up to warm my hands a little, and so that "Baba Yaga" (drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). - Ed.) did not see me. <...> That's how I did it for four days," he said.

The volunteer also added that after the evacuation fell asleep hugging a bag of tangerines and an icon of Alexander Nevsky. At the moment, the serviceman is in the hospital, where he will soon undergo surgery on his legs.

"But now I have a lot of valuables. It's not like sitting there on the phone or watching TV. When I was lying down, I almost always wanted to be somewhere else, like skiing with some girl. How cool it would be just to visit a friend," said the man.

Earlier, on January 20, the Russian Defense Ministry noted the merits of Private Alexander Rubachev, who, acting as part of an assault unit, carried out a combat mission to take control of enemy positions in an important direction of the Russian troops' offensive. He himself was among the first to enter the battle and killed six Ukrainian fighters with aimed fire.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
