In Gagauzia, 2025 was declared the Year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was announced by the head of the autonomy Eugenia Gutsul in her Telegram channel on January 22.

"The Executive Committee of Gagauzia today made an important decision - to declare 2025 the Year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War," the statement said.

According to her, the victory in this war was won by the Soviet people, of which the inhabitants of Soviet Moldova were also a part. The Gagauz authorities consider it their duty to pass on the historical truth to future generations.

Gutsul added that in the coming months, the autonomy will draw up a plan of educational, cultural and scientific events dedicated to this event.

"We expect that schools, kindergartens, cultural institutions, public organizations and not indifferent residents of the autonomy will join the initiative of the Executive Committee. I am sure that the Year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory in Gagauzia will be a significant event for all of us. This is an opportunity not only to honor the memory of heroes, but also to strengthen pride in our history, unity and continuity of generations", - concluded the head of Gagauzia.

Earlier, on January 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on holding the Year of Defender of the Fatherland in 2025. According to the decree, it was decided to hold the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia in order to preserve historical memory, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), as well as to thank veterans and to recognize the feat of the participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO).
