Economist admits easing of sanctions against Russia under Trump

Anti-Russian sanctions under the new US President Donald Trump may be revised. This opinion was expressed by economist Mikhail Belyaev on Wednesday, January 22. He admitted changes in the global and Russian economies after the politician came to power.
He noted that the United States does not take any actions that are directed to their detriment.
"So to say that sanctions will be dismantled - it is unlikely that they will be dismantled. But the fact that they will be replaced by tariff selective some measures in relation to trade, including with Russia, and maybe even primarily with Russia, this can be said definitely," the specialist explained in conversation with Lenta.Ru.
According to Belyaev, tariff restrictions are much easier to circumvent. He added that Trump will be primarily guided by his interests. At the same time, the American economy will play a determining role, and it will be oriented by other states as the first economy of the world.
"Trump is trying to make some efforts, announcing the course that will be aimed at strengthening the domestic American economy, that is, industrialization and, accordingly, strengthening the American position in the world," he said.
Belyaev added that the methods could be very different, starting from direct pressure.
"As we know, he is more prone to tariff manipulation and other things. So, naturally, Trump's course will affect the state of the world economy," the expert concluded.
Earlier, Trump allowed the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, if the country's authorities do not go to negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, reports NSN.
On January 21, he admitted the preservation of the regime of anti-Russian sanctions until the very end of the Ukrainian conflict.
On the same day, the official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said that the preparation of a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump is not yet underway, reports IA Regnum.
On the eve of the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the end of the conflict in Ukraine a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun. He also specified that both sides of the conflict should be ready to compromise.
Western countries have tightened sanctions pressure on Russia in connection with the special operation to protect Donbass. The decision to launch it was announced on February 24, 2022 after the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
