The European Union says it is necessary to return to relations with Russia over time

The European Union will have to establish relations with Russia when the time comes, as it is a neighbor of the community and a global player on the world stage. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament (EP), said this in an interview with the Polish portal Internia on January 21.

"I would tell them that we cannot ignore the fact that Russia is our neighbor and a global player. <...> We must not forget this, and we will have to consider it carefully when the time comes," she said, commenting on the current beliefs in the EU East that Europe will want to normalize relations with Russia.

At the same time, Metsola emphasized that the EU will continue to provide financial and military support to Ukraine as long as it is needed.

Earlier, on December 4, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that relations between Russia and the West will inevitably normalize. Putin noted that not only the Russian Federation but the West itself was interested in this.
