In Transbaikalia, a cross was consecrated on Udokan Mountain

In the Zabaikalsky Krai, an adoration cross located on the mountain of the Udokan quarry in the Kalar district has been consecrated. The religious symbol is located at an altitude of 1,827 meters above sea level, the press service of the regional government reports in Telegram.
The consecration rite was held with the blessing of Bishop Makary of Nerchinsk and Krasnokamensk. The rite was performed by a missionary from the Belgorod diocese, Priest Daniel Tarasovsky, writes IA ChitaMedia.
As explained in the Nerchinsk diocese, this event was the result of the initiative of the management of the mining company Udokan Copper, which is one of the largest subsoil users in the region.
Udokan is the largest copper deposit in Russia and one of the largest undeveloped in the world. Its copper reserves are estimated at 26 million tons. The copper ore deposits were discovered by a group of Soviet geological prospectors more than 70 years ago, but the technologies of that time did not make it possible to realize the project.
Now the deposit is being developed by Udokan Copper. As a major investor and employer, the company is actively involved in the life of the North of Transbaikalia. For example, it organizes events aimed at preserving the Evenki language and cultural traditions.
