- The Council of Federation assessed Trump's instruction to end the conflict in Ukraine in 100 days

The United States should learn to behave in a civilized manner in the international arena, including in its relations with Russia. This was stated by the deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Andrey Klimov, on Wednesday, January 22, when responding to media reports about US President Donald Trump's order to end the conflict in Ukraine in 100 days.
Earlier in the day, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Trump had instructed his special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 100 days, 360.ru reported.
"It's time for Washington to realize that there are different countries in the world, but only some of them, such as China and even more so Russia, are capable of pursuing a completely independent, sovereign policy. <...> If the U.S. does not start behaving as befits civilized countries, they will have little success," the senator said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
According to the politician, 100 days comes from the American tradition, when during this time American presidents show miracles to the people.
"This tradition has nothing to do with us. Russia's position was clearly and concretely stated <...> by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," Klimov said.
In addition, the senator noted that the U.S. should respect the sovereign equality of states, taking into account each other's interests. He emphasized that any international agreements should be based on the balance of interests of all parties involved.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that Washington is studying the issue of further arms deliveries to Kiev, reports NSN. He also added that his meeting with the Russian president would take place "very soon," RT reports.
On January 20, Trump was inaugurated, after which he reiterated that he plans to meet with Putin as soon as possible and discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis a priority for Trump. According to him, "part of the preparatory work" has begun.
The election of the 47th President of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. During the election campaign, the Republican promised to solve the Ukrainian conflict before the inauguration.
