Stubb names likely timeline for Trump to resolve Ukraine conflict

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said that US leader Donald Trump could resolve the Ukrainian conflict within six months.
"I think the timing is such that 24 hours has turned into a gap somewhere between three and six months, this is probably the window of opportunity we are dealing with," TASS quoted him as saying on January 22.
Stubb added that Trump's important achievement was a truce in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In his opinion, the American president is now "trying to formulate a solution" on Ukraine, which could be similar to a settlement.
At the same time, he believes that the settlement of the conflict should avoid "the scenario of Afghanistan," where the government fell shortly after the withdrawal of US troops.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the conflict in Ukraine should be settled on the basis of reliable legal guarantees. He noted that the Russian side had familiarized its colleagues with the latest developments around the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, Moscow's commitment to achieving the goals of the special operation and eliminating the root causes of the crisis was emphasized.
Before that, on January 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was open to a dialog with the new administration of US President Donald Trump on the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, the goal of the settlement is not a brief truce, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of people, he emphasized.
In turn, Trump after the inauguration held on the same day again said that he plans to meet with Putin and as soon as possible and discuss the situation in Ukraine. The new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict a Republican priority.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
