US President Donald Trump in his inauguration speech on January 20 did not touch upon such issues as health care and housing, despite their importance for citizens. This was stated on January 22 by Bernie Sanders, a US senator and participant in the 2016 presidential race.

He indicated that he did not agree with many theses in the speech of the new president. According to him, it is important that the topics that the head of state chose to omit at the ceremony are of great importance to the general public.

"Our health care system is broken, dysfunctional and terribly expensive. Trump hasn't said a word about how he's going to address health care. We pay the highest price in the world for prescription drugs, sometimes 10 times more than people in other countries," Sanders said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

The senator noted that one in four U.S. residents cannot afford medication.

In addition, Sanders said that 800 thousand people in the United States are homeless, and other millions of people spend 50-60% of income on housing, and it can be said that the United States is experiencing a serious housing crisis.

The senator emphasized that the disparity between the income of the rich and the poor in the state has become greater than ever before. In particular, the three richest US citizens own a fortune that exceeds the sum of all funds at the disposal of the poor stratum of the American population.

Sanders added that Trump did not touch on the topic of the climate crisis, which concerns the entire planet. That said, the last 10 years on Earth have been the warmest on record, with extreme weather events and natural disasters occurring from Los Angeles to India.

The day before, on January 21, Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing unfairly high fees, reports "Gazeta.Ru". Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, commenting on this, linked the decision of the new American president with selfish motives, rather than concern for citizens.

Before that, on December 19, 2024, a report by the independent group The Commonwealth Fund was published, according to which the United States was in last place in the list of 10 developed countries on various health issues. In particular, the study showed that people in the United States die from incurable diseases earlier than in other nations. At the same time, Washington spends about 18% of gross domestic product (GDP) on financing the industry, which is twice as much as in any other country.

On December 27, the Bloomberg agency published the data of the report of the administration of the then US President Joe Biden, according to which the number of homeless people in the country has reached a historical maximum. This is due to high rents and an influx of migrants. In January 2024, almost 772 thousand people were recognized as homeless, and this is 18% more than in 2023.
