Unusual shovels for cleaning beaches from fuel oil were built in Anapa

Unusual shovels were created to clean Anapa beaches from fuel oil. Participants of the emergency response learned about the invention on the Internet and decided to implement the idea, reports the press service of the Krasnodar region operative headquarters on Wednesday, January 22.
The tool consists of a handle and a metal mesh for sifting sand. Local resident Alexander Bykov took part in the creation of the novelty. According to him, before the successful copy of the shovel was made, six "experimental" ones were made. Each time the tool was tested on the beach.
"This is all done by hand, artisanally. Such shovels should be put into mass production, to make one or two thousand pieces. There is already a drawing, we are ready to provide all the information", - said the volunteer, his quote quotes IA KrasnodarMedia.
Also in the operative headquarters reported that from the beaches of the Krasnodar region has already collected the first ton of fuel oil. Oil-contaminated areas were discovered on January 20 near the Kuchugury tract in the Slavyansk district.
Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" crashed during a strong storm in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. As a result of the accident, about 40% of fuel oil leaked out of them.
Two days later, by the morning of December 17, the oil products reached the shores of Anapa and Temryuksky district, and then Crimea. On December 26, a federal emergency was declared. On January 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the fuel oil spill in the Black Sea one of the most serious environmental challenges for the country in recent years.
Earlier, Vladimir Kalyaev, head of Skoltech's development projects group, who is involved in the cleanup of the accident, told Izvestia that fuel emissions from tankers will continue in the area of the oil spill on the coast of the Black and Azov seas. A large amount of oil product accumulations remain at a depth of up to 150 meters, from time to time they surface and create new pollution zones, he explained.
