Ukrainian Oleksandr Permyakov, who was convicted for the attempted assassination of writer Zakhar Prilepin, has asked to be stripped of his Russian citizenship. This was reported by TASS on January 22, referring to the case materials, which were announced in the Military Court of Appeal, where the appeal against Permyakov's sentence was considered.

It is specified that he asked to deprive him of Russian citizenship, as he does not consider himself a Russian citizen. The arguments of the complaint say that he received a Russian passport to move freely around the country and commit crimes. The court left the petition without consideration.

Today, the Military Court of Appeal approved Permyakov's life sentence.

The car Audi Q7, in which the writer Prilepin was riding, was blown up on May 6, 2023 in the Nizhny Novgorod region. At the time of the explosion in the car in the passenger seat was an associate of the writer Alexander Shubin, he died.

On the same day on suspicion of the crime was detained Permyakov, who in his youth had already been sentenced to seven years in prison for participation in the beating of a man. He told of his ties with members of the special services of Ukraine. The man planted the explosive device on the road and later detonated it remotely. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under the article "Terrorist act". The trial against him began on September 12, 2024. Permyakov pleaded guilty then, and on September 27, the state prosecution requested that he be sentenced to life imprisonment.
