Colombian mercenary who invaded Kursk region arrested

A mercenary from Colombia, Pablo Puentes Borges, suspected of committing a terrorist act, was taken into custody. This was announced by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko on January 22.

The identity of the militant was established by officers of the Russian Federal Security Service of Russia in the Leningrad Military District and suppressed his criminal activity. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the Colombian joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and participated in the current conflict for financial remuneration. He illegally crossed the Russian border in December 2024, entering the territory of the Kursk region as part of the AFU, where he committed crimes against civilians.

"Boorhas is suspected of committing a terrorist act and mercenarism. <...> In the course of hostilities in the area of the settlement of Alexandria, Sujan district, Kursk region, Boorkhes was taken prisoner by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

Also in respect of the mercenary, the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee (GVSU SK) of Russia opened a criminal case.

Earlier, on January 22, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic sentenced in absentia mercenary from Georgia Gela Kakhabrishvili to 14 years in prison. As reported by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. It is specified that he was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").
