Bulgaria points to leadership crisis in Europe
There is a crisis of leadership in Europe. This opinion was expressed by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev in his speech at the fifth Sofia Economic Forum on January 21.
He pointed out that the geopolitical security architecture in Europe is collapsing. According to him, in order to restore it, it is not enough to simply point out the problems, it is necessary to eliminate the causes of the collapse.
"It (crisis of leadership. - Ed.) has, in my opinion, two main dimensions - competence and honesty. In this regard, fears about[US President Donald] Trump's return to the White House are being planted and hyped," Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) quoted the president as saying.
In his opinion, Trump's return to the US presidency, on the contrary, could be a catalyst for some recovery processes in Europe if it perceives it as a chance to take responsibility not only for its own security, but also from "building a dynamic economy."
The day before, Reuters reported that after the end of the Ukrainian conflict, Europe could face an economic crisis due to a shortage of workers. According to the cited data, there are more than 4.3 million Ukrainians living in Europe, who filled vacant jobs in the context of low unemployment. However, as the publication noted, they may return to their country after peace is established.
On the same day, French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said the European Union (EU) will be "crushed" by US President Donald Trump's policies if Europeans do nothing. He urged the people of Europe to reunite to address the threat from the US side.
Before that, on January 15, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl said that Trump does not care about the EU, which is currently in crisis. She expressed confidence that the politician is wise enough to focus on the problems of the United States after coming to power.
