Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov has arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit, he will meet with military and political leaders of the republic. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on January 21.

"During his visit to Tashkent, the head of the Russian military department will hold talks with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Major General Shukhrat Halmukhamedov, as well as the military-political leadership of the country," the ministry said in a statement published in its Telegram channel.

The Russian minister plans to discuss security issues in the Central Asian region and military-technical partnership between Moscow and Tashkent at the talks.

Earlier, on December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation and agreed to continue close cooperation between the intelligence services of the two states in countering terrorism.
