US President Donald Trump should resolve the conflict in Ukraine not only quickly, but also reliably. This was stated on January 21 by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024.

"We want to end (the conflict. - Ed.) this year. But not just the word 'quickly', but fairly, above all reliably for us," Zelensky said during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), the recording of which was published on the YouTube channel of the Ukrainian president's office.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader during the speech stated the need for a unified European security and defense policy. He added that all European countries should spend on security as much finances as necessary, "not as much as they have gotten used to over the years of neglect."

In addition, Zelensky addressed the topic of artificial intelligence, noting that Europe is behind in developments. He pointed out that European countries are no longer leading the "global technology race" and are now behind the US and China.

"The [social network] TikTok algorithms are already more powerful than some governments. The fate of small countries already depends more on the owners of technology corporations rather than on their (country's) laws," the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelenskyy also added that Europe should be able to guarantee security and peace to those countries that are important to it. At the same time, he pointed out that European countries need the EU and NATO to be strong, adding that this would be impossible without a fair end to the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, political scientist Ivan Mezyukho suggested in a conversation with Izvestia that relations between the United States and European NATO member states could become cooler due to the fact that Trump may change Washington's political line on Ukraine. In particular, the new American president demands from alliance allies more autonomy and increased investment in helping Ukraine.

Trump on his first day in office signed an executive order that suspended US development aid to other countries for 90 days. The Republican pointed out that the American interests do not correspond to the established in this area "foreign aid industry and bureaucracy". In addition, Trump believes that they promote ideas opposite to harmonious relations between countries.

On the eve of the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the end of the conflict in Ukraine the President's priority. The foreign policy chief pointed out that "part of the preparatory work" had been started on this issue, and both sides of the crisis should show willingness to compromise.

January 20 was the inauguration of Trump, who took the oath of office and became the 47th President of the United States. After that, he reiterated that he planned to meet with Putin as soon as possible to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.
