A drug addict dispelled one of the myths about fighting hangovers

A hangover or withdrawal syndrome, as a result of which a person is forced to look for some ways to improve his or her health, is the main sign of the beginning of alcoholism. This was stated by candidate of medical sciences, psychotherapist, narcologist Marat Sarayev on Tuesday, January 21.
The specialist noted that in order to minimize hangovers, it is not necessary to drink a lot of water, cranberry morsels or rose hips.
"Intoxication with water is fraught with edema, because the cardiovascular system and kidneys themselves at this point work poorly, and a large amount of water and fluid in the body can lead to improper redistribution of this fluid," the expert explained in conversation with Radio 1.
According to Saraev, in such a state a person's blood pressure changes, the gastrointestinal tract (GI), urinary system and psyche are disturbed.
"In such conditions, a psychiatrist-narcologist gives clear recommendations: bed rest, certain types of drugs, including psychotropic drugs," concluded the narcologist.
Earlier, on January 14, psychiatrist, narcologist, head of the psychiatric and narcological clinic Ruslan Isaev noted that to restore the body after the effects caused by the toxic effects of alcohol, it is necessary to completely abandon it to give the body time to eliminate toxins. In addition, it is worthwhile to establish a drinking regimen to restore the water-electrolyte balance, added the narcologist. Isayev also recommended eating more foods containing vitamins and minerals: fresh vegetables, fruits, lean meat and fish.
On January 9, Alexander Umnov, a lecturer at the Department of Fundamental Medical Disciplines of the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education and a practicing surgeon, recommended inducing vomiting to cleanse the stomach and intestines of toxins. It is also important to drink plenty of water to speed up the removal of harmful substances from the body, reports 360.ru.
Earlier, in December 2024, scientists from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology found out that polyphenols in herbs, mushrooms and fruits, as well as extracts of chaga, mistletoe and other plants help to get rid of a hangover, reports NSN.
