The European Union (EU) has not yet gotten an idea of what US President Donald Trump's policy on Ukraine will be. This was stated by European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Policy Maroš Šefčovič on January 21 at the plenary session of the European Parliament.

"We have no idea yet about the policy that the US President will choose," said the European Commissioner, whose speech was broadcast on the audio-visual portal of the European Commission (EC).

At the same time, he said that the EU plans to cooperate with the Trump administration on all aspects, including providing political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military and diplomatic assistance to Ukraine for as long as necessary. The association is ready to discuss all joint steps with the team of the new American leader.

Earlier in the day, political scientist Ivan Mezyukho suggested in a conversation with Izvestia that relations between the United States and European NATO member states could become cooler due to the fact that Trump may change Washington's political line on Ukraine. In particular, the new American president demands from alliance allies more autonomy and increased investment in helping Ukraine.

Trump on his first day in office signed an executive order that suspended US development aid to other countries for 90 days. The Republican pointed out that American interests do not correspond to the established in this area "foreign aid industry and bureaucracy". In addition, Trump believes that they promote ideas opposite to harmonious relations between countries, reports "Gazeta.Ru".

On the eve, January 20, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the end of the conflict in Ukraine the President's priority. The foreign policy chief pointed out that on this issue "a part of the preparatory work has begun", and both sides of the crisis should show willingness to compromise.

January 20 was the inauguration of Trump, who took the oath of office and became the 47th President of the United States. After that, he reiterated that he planned to meet with Putin as soon as possible to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.
