An expert predicted the growth of prices for used cars

The average cost of a used car on the Russian market will grow. The prerequisites for this will be the completion of sales of dealer stocks of new cars manufactured in 2024. At the end of the first quarter of 2025 we can expect an increase in the cost of cars with mileage. This was told to "Izvestia" on January 22 by Andrei Pavlov, head of the department for the sale of seized property of GC "Alfa-Leasing".

According to the specialist, in 2024 for several months in car dealerships were special promotions for the purchase of new cars. Also, the strengthening of monetary policy and constant expectations of an increase in the key rate of the Central Bank contributed to the growth of demand for car loans, which after the increase in rates may become difficult to access for Russian citizens.

"Approximately from March 2025, the average cost of a used car on the Russian market will grow. Prerequisites for this will be the completion of sales of dealer stocks of new autos produced in 2024, as well as price growth in this segment by about 10% due to the increase in the utilization fee," Pavlov said.

According to him, the average age of used cars in Russia is constantly increasing. In 2024, it exceeded seven years, and for the most popular models it reached nine years. Thus, as the age of a car increases, its price on the secondary market decreases and the time of its sale lengthens.

"Traditionally, the secondary market reacts to pricing in the segment of new cars after a couple of months, so at the end of the first quarter of this year we can expect an increase in the cost of cars with mileage," summarized Pavlov.
