Helsinki University professor urged U.S. to withdraw troops from Finnish territory

University of Helsinki professor Tuomas Malinen on January 21 called on U.S. authorities to withdraw their troops from Finnish territory.
"The most important thing for the security of our country and Europe would be to cancel the defense cooperation agreement and withdraw all US troops from Finnish territory," the professor said in a post on X (former Twitter).
In addition, Malinen pointed out that the purpose of this agreement is only one - to intimidate Russia, adding that it is very stupid.
Earlier, on January 9, a US reconnaissance plane made an observation flight in Finnish airspace near the border with Russia. It was specified that the plane, having taken off from Waddington airbase in the UK, flew through the airspace of Denmark and Sweden to the Gulf of Finland. The TV channel also noted that the US Air Force's RC-135W Rivet Joint is a reconnaissance aircraft capable of detecting and localizing various radio systems, as well as analyzing communications.
In the summer of 2024, the Finnish Parliament approved a defense cooperation agreement with the United States, which gives the Americans free access to Finnish military bases, transportation arteries and infrastructure facilities.
