- The State Duma assessed Trump's statement about Zelensky's readiness for a deal on Ukraine

US President Donald Trump's statement that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expires in May 2024, is ready to make a deal with Moscow does not mean anything yet. This opinion was expressed by Alexei Chepa, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, January 21.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that he would seek an end to the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. According to him, Zelensky is ready to make a deal, reports 360.ru. Also, the head of the White House said that he would soon talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports NSN.
According to Chepa, the fact that Trump confidently says about Zelensky, does not mean that he states a fact. At the same time, all actions of the Ukrainian leader will 100% depend on the West, and the West will depend on the United States to a large extent.
"We already understand this, although there is some resistance, statements of many European politicians, but I personally do not doubt it. Therefore, no matter how Zelensky chortles, he will do completely as he will be commanded, because if he wants to do something differently, he will be thrown out simply. He will be thrown out anyway, but he has the opportunity to try to find a better option for himself, although I don't see it," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
Earlier, on January 20, Trump did not mention Russia and Ukraine in his inauguration speech, RT reported. The main topic of the president-elect's speech was the internal problems of the US and the defense of its borders. Among other things, Trump promised in the speech to return the Panama Canal to the United States and to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the American Gulf. At the same time, in his speech at the Capitol, Trump said that the strength of the United States will allow to "end all wars" and ensure unity in the world.
Prior to that, Trump took the oath of office in the Capitol rotunda, becoming the 47th president of the United States. Along with him, Vice President Jay Dee Vance was sworn in. This is Trump's second term as president, the first time he was the American leader from 2017-2021. In his inaugural speech, the new US president announced the beginning of the "golden age of America".
The election of the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while former US Vice President Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
